Assessments

Our assessments are comprehensive, evidence-based, and individualized. We differentiate ourselves by providing a quick turnaround of results, offering a follow-up appointment 6 months after the assessment, and including a one page summary of results to share with your child’s team.

Based on the referral question, we put together a comprehensive evaluation plan. Our areas of expertise include Autism, ADHD, executive functioning, learning differences (dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia), giftedness, twice exceptionality, social processing, and anxiety. Once we have a better understanding of your child, we will work collaboratively with you to create a plan for interventions and next steps.

  • Neuropsychological assessments are in-depth evaluations of brain functioning. These assessment include evaluation of cognitive, academic, memory, processing, and emotional functioning. Given our expertise at Spark Psychology, we connect the findings to the client’s educational experience and offer in-depth recommendations for accommodations and modifications in the school setting.

  • A psychoeducational assessment evaluates a client’s cognitive and academic functioning. It also answers questions related to a specific area of processing (attention, executive functioning, learning differences, etc.).

  • IQ assessments measure cognitive functioning and provide information about the client’s profile. They determine giftedness and are also often used in school applications.

  • An achievement assessment provides a general understanding of a client’s academic abilities. Reading, writing, mathematics, and oral language are evaluated. These assessments are also used in school applications sometimes.

Why Should I Have My Child Evaluated at Spark?

Spark Psychology evaluations are evidence-based and comprehensive. However, there are certain elements of a Spark Psychology evaluation that set us apart:

  • Timeline: Once we have all of the forms for our evaluations back from parents and teachers, we commit to a three week turnaround time (after the last testing session) for the report and feedback session. We believe you should not have to wait for results.

  • Concise Communication of Results: We will write a comprehensive report for your records. However, we know that not everyone has the time or energy to dig into a lengthy report. We will also put together a “Summary” one-pager for you to share with your child’s teachers and other relevant individuals. The summary will include your child’s strengths, differences, and important information around accommodations and modifications.

  • Follow Up: When you work with us, we become part of your team. Our evaluations include a 30-minute consultation 6 months after the evaluation was completed. We want to know how things are going for you and your child and how we can continue to support you.

  • No Hidden Costs: We have a flat-fee which we will discuss in the intake. The fee includes all testing, scoring, and report writing, as well as a feedback meeting to discuss results. It also includes calls with other professionals with whom your child works. The only additional cost that you will incur is if you ask us to attend an IEP meeting or put together additional documentation.

Using state of the art, evidence-based evaluation tools, our assessments answer the following questions:

  • How does my child learn best?

  • What are my child’s learning and cognitive strengths?

  • What cognitive, learning, or processing barriers is my child facing?

  • How is my child’s emotional state?

  • What supports (accommodations, modifications, differentiation, interventions) does my child need in school?

  • What supports does my child need outside of school?

  • How can I best support my child’s development?
